DREAM ON THE EDGE

Dream on the Edge

The Concept: Blurring Lines in a Post-Pandemic World

The global pandemic fundamentally shifted our relationship with our living environments, proving that the home can successfully function as an office. "A Dream on the Edge" was born from this realization, designed as a space that rethinks the traditional home office by blurring the boundaries between professional discipline and domestic comfort.

Located in Pangthang, Sikkim, the project treats the space as an alive entity capable of interacting with its inhabitants. The design intent was to mold a single environment that can transition between formal and informal modes depending on the time of day, specific furniture usage, and the user's needs. The result is a spatial arrangement that brings the comfort of home into the office while integrating the structure of a workspace into the home, all set against a backdrop of fabulous mountain views.

The Working Bed: Adaptive Furniture Design

A central feature of this renovation is "The Working Bed," a concept derived from the collective lockdown experience of working from bed. This custom furniture piece transforms that luxury into a functional reality. It is designed as an adaptive platform that serves as a seating and working station during the day, complete with a study table. By night, it transitions into a sleeping platform and entertainment desk. The unit evolved during the design process to include storage for extra bedding, comfortable backrests, and accessory ledges, making it a crucial architectural element that brings the "home office" concept to light.
